Lawyer Profile

Ms.Courtenay is an experienced advocate before all levels of the civil Courts in British Columbia. She articled at a large full service law firm. From 1985 to 1990 she worked in a small law firm focused on civil and commercial litigation. In 1991 she opened her own law office in family law and litigation. She has been active in the Canadian Bar Association throughout her career, and was on the executive committee of the Family Law Section in Vancouver from 1990 to 1999. She was an elected member of the Executive Committee of the National Family Law Section from 1998 to 2003.

Carla assists clients to reach financial settlements and workable parenting plans for post separation. Her emphasis is on preserving family assets and wealth, and protecting the parental relationship for children of separated families. She works with existing advisors to couples, such as their financial advisors or accountants, to arrive at settlements; and where additional advice is needed she has a network of good resources in Vancouver.

Since 1985, Carla has served on a number of committees and boards in the voluntary sector of the Vancouver community, in addition to participation in the Canadian Bar Association B.C. Branch, the Vancouver Family Law Section, Collaborative Divorce Vancouver, and the bi-annual National Family Law Programme.
